What They Say

“Geniuses can be scintillating and geniuses can be somber, but it’s that inescapable sorrowful depth that shines through—originality.”
—Jack Kerouac

Interview with Mystery Author Lori Lyn

Mystery Author Lori Lyn

What inspired you to write mystery books?

My mystery, Two Left Feet, started out as a completely different book. However, when a series of feet began appearing throughout the area I live in and no bodies were found, I was most intrigued. Unfortunately, I thought it too implausible to have someone solve that kind of crime so I started on a modification and Abbey Rhoads was “born”. I’ve always loved watching police/detective/forensic shows so thought I’d challenge myself.

What style of mystery novel is your favorite (police procedural, cozy, etc.)?

Police procedurals. I have quite a collection of research books, including an FBI Handbook!

What are you working on now?

I’m working on the second book in the Abbey Rhoads Mystery, The Town Killer, which I hope to have out by October, 2017. The rest of the books will come out in 2018.

Do you prefer to write mystery series books or stand-alones?

I prefer stand-alone series, as do many of my reader friends.

What is your typical day like?

Check e-mail and sort messages, contact my partners to see where we are all at on current contracts and on new submissions. Then, I check with our production team to see their status. After that, I respond to any of our authors’ questions/status inquiries, check on industry news, check website content, and after possibly reading a submission or two, I may have a little time to write (but usually not).

What’s the last mystery book you read that you really loved and would recommend?

Capture Me, a really fun first book in a new series by Katherine Bacher. It’s New Adult, sweet, and very funny. The next book in the series is Crush On You.
